Apollo 11 was the fifth human spaceflight of the Apollo program, the third human voyage to the moon, and the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It launched on July 16, 1969 carrying Commander Neil Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin. On July 21, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon, while Collins orbited above.

Thalidomide
In the 1960's a drug named "Thalidomide" was marketed as a drug for morning sickness, but was withdrawn after fears about its safety.
A few years later, the children of women who had consumed "Thalidomide" were born with serious physical-development problems, mainly in the hands and legs.
Recently, sufferers say the effects of the drug are being seen in their own children, almost 40 years later.

The Escape from Alcatraz On the night of June 11, 1962, Frank Morris and two brothers John and Clarence Anglin became the only ones to have succesfully escaped the prison on Alcatraz Island. They made a raft out of raincoats and headed out towards Angel Island. Although the bodies were never found, authorities were sure they had drowned. Whether they made it ashore in one piece or not will probably always remain a myth.
